This winter, we have had a whole lot of snow in Edmonton. Now, we have very warm temperatures, so a lot of that snow has been melting, causing soft snow that we call slush. After the warm temperatures, everything freezes again, causing ice. Lately, I see and hear lots of people stuck in the snow, or on the ice. There are a few tricks to keep from getting stuck, and there are a few things that will help you get out of the snow, if you are stuck. It’s a very good idea to keep a small shovel in your car during the winter, as well as something that you can use to provide traction, like sand, or cat litter. As soon as I park in deep snow, I always drive back and forth a few times, to give myself an easier way to get away later on. If you try to go too fast, you’ll usually have even more trouble getting out. It’s also a good idea to be friendly to strangers and neighbours, because you may need their help to give you a push when you’re stuck. Here’s one video with tips for getting out if you’re stuck, as well as a funny song about getting stuck in the mud, in the springtime.
