This is very true. For cyclists to be safe on the road, they need to ride in the middle of the lane. At this time of year, there is a lot of gravel and debris, next to the curb. As well, motorists can easily ignore, or fail to see, cyclists who are riding next to the curb. I often think of the 50-year-old woman who was killed by a garbage truck a few blocks from my home. She was riding to work, in the daylight, on a cycling route. Unfortunately, the driver could not see her, turned right, and she died. Good advice to get help from experienced cyclists before starting to ride.
