There are so many excellent resources available on the internet when you get confused about something in English. Instead of opening your translate program, try a Google search for whatever is strange. For example, you can search for “make versus do”, and you’ll find something like this great poster. If you see or hear a strange phrase, type the whole thing into your search window, and add “meaning”. Usually, you will find several definitions that explain things clearly, but if you try to translate word for word, you will be much more confused than you already were. There are a lot of important collocations in English (and any language). We use specific verbs with specific nouns. Make and do are illustrated above.
